Clyde and Reale Respond to Exclusion from Tuesday's Congressional Debate

Press Release

Date: Oct. 13, 2014

William Clyde, Green Party, and Dan Reale, Libertarian Party, both candidates for U.S. Congress in Connecticut's 2nd District, have been excluded from the upcoming debate scheduled for October 14 at The Garde in New London. But they are still working to be heard.

Clyde and Reale will debate in front of the stone house at 345 State Street (the corner of State and Huntington adjacent to The Garde) beginning at 6:30 Tuesday evening, prior to the 8:00 PM debate between Joe Courtney and Lori Hopkins-Cavanagh in The Garde. The Clyde-Reale debate will include the chance for questions from the public and will conclude at 7:30. Barbara Brockhurst, a member of the Southeast Connecticut chapter of the League of Women Voters will serve as moderator, although the debate was not organized by the League.

Clyde and Reale are being included in the debate sponsored by the Norwich Bulletin at ECSU on Monday, October 20 at 7 PM.

Clyde and Reale will also participate in a debate/interview on the Lee Elci radio show (94.9 in New London) from 8:10-9:00 AM on Monday, Ocotober 27.

"Having spent a great deal of time meeting voters in New London, including three days at the corner of Eugene O'Neill and State during Sailfest collecting signatures, I am confident that voters feel being "well informed" includes knowing all of their options," says Clyde. "A plurality of voters (47% in the district) are so fed up with the two major parties that they are unaffiliated with either, meaning third parties are being considered."

"In a perfect world, all voters would have sufficient information about all candidates to make informed voting decisions. We feel responsible to do all in our power to help make that happen and appreciate the support of media committed to that end," Clyde concluded.

Green Party has been on the ballot since 2008, and the Libertarian Party has been on since 2012.
